These modules are designed to equip coaches with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate diverse cultural landscapes within sports.
2. Anti-racism in Coaching – Coaching Association of Canada
Coaches in Canada play an integral role in creating a fair and inclusive environment for their sport. While the impact of racism in sports and coaching can be far-reaching, so can the effects of anti-racism coaching education.
This eLearning module provides information and guidance to help coaches support and advocate for racialized participants in sport.
3. Aboriginal Coaching Program – Aboriginal Sport Circle
Coaches play a key role not only on the field of play but as agents of social change in Indigenous communities. Their guidance can have a direct and lasting impact on the healthy and active lifestyles of community members, especially youth.
As creators and stewards of the Aboriginal Coaching Program (ACP), the Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) have made it a priority to educate, promote the value of, and establish Indigenous participation in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
The Aboriginal Coaching Program is built around a cultural platform meant to engage coaches and empower them to make a positive, long-lasting impact in their roles and in their communities.
The Orange Jersey Project uses the power of sport to educate young athletes about the true history of the Indian residential school system, strengthen the path toward truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and promote the physical and mental wellness of Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth through sport.
The Anti-Racism in Sport Canada seeks to increase, promote, and engage in discussions on anti-racism in sport about the presence of all levels of racism in sport in Canada and its impact on people’s lives, and raise awareness, address, and eliminate racism and discrimination experienced by First Nations, Metis, Inuit, Black, Racialized, and Religious Minority communities in sport in Canada.
The Hockey Diversity Alliance is a trailblazing organization committed to fostering inclusivity, combatting discrimination, and advancing diversity within the hockey community. The HDA aims to drive positive change by addressing systemic issues and promoting a more equitable diverse sport through community building, educational programming, and free ice and ball hockey programming.
Launched in 2015, Hockey 4 Youth’s mission is to increase social inclusion for new Canadian (newcomer) and high priority youth. Hockey 4 Youth fosters social inclusion for newcomer & high-priority youth of all genders through Free ice hockey. They provide the following at no cost:
- Equipment: skates, helmets, neck guards, elbow pads, chest/shoulder protectors, shin guards, hockey pants and socks, and jerseys
- Ice time: 18-22 weeks of learn to skate/learn to play programs
- Coaching
- Transportation for Field Trips
- Snacks
- Access to inclusive tournaments
